Samsung 1 - Apple 0..Samsung can sell their 10.1...
The ban against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been lifted in Australia, and although Apple plans to appeal to a higher court, it looks like that is likely to be unsuccessful.
The judges basically decided that the ban on selling the 10.1 shoudn’t of been granted by the judge previously. The ban centred around infringements of the Apple Tab by Samsung.
This could be used as a precedent...

Kindle Fire sales expected to go beyond what was...
Industry analysts are expecting Kindle Fire sales to triple what they had previously predicted, finally making some real competition in the Tablet market for the Ipad.
I always thought that many people, doing christmas shopping, would consider a Kindle as a pressie at $199, but Ipad is a *serious* present at close to $500.
Kindle is currently only available in the US.

Samsung giving up on Netbooks - Netbooks vs...
Samsung is apparently giving up on Netbooks, and focusing on its Ultrabooks. The Ultrabooks are a bit of a challenge for the Netbooks….both about the same size, and similiar weight, but the Ultrabook packs higher specs and is more like a real lappie.
Of course, price wise, Netbooks are about 25% of the cost, but there would be buyers who in the past wanting a small laptop for space/weight...

Robot Prison Guards - South Korea (of course, it...
Well, its Science Fictioney, so I had to post, South Korea is running a trial using Robot Prison guards. Their robots are 5 foot tall, and monitor activity. They will wander about the facility and monitor unusual circumstances (including monitoring for suicides). Inmates will be able to use them to talk to the Prison wardens.
No chances of Cyberdine Incorporated getting involved here, or the...

Children of the Computer Game generation can't...
Children are not getting outside and doing physical exercise like they used to…this is not only making them more obese, but they are losing dexterity in terms of physical skills.
They can’t throw and they can’t catch. It could relate to parents not having enough time to play with them, or they are spending more time playing electronic games rather then RL games.
Fewer than 10...

Google gives up Wave, various other things no one...
Google has finally decided to give up on its previous social media efforts. Google Plus, though it is still way behind Facebook and Twitter, is doing a lot better than Google Wave. Google Wave was launched to much hype, and promised to integrate various Google services. I bought the hype and set up an account. No one else really did. As for Google “Friend Connect”…..I...

Electronic functionality on your contact lens.
More science fiction comes to reality. In the show Torchwood, the characters have a contact lens that can record and transmit video, so other people see what the wearer sees.
It seems that’s not far away. Scientists have incorporated lenses containing electronic displays in them, and are looking at other electronic functionality. There are a number of possibilities for these..they may be...
2012 to be the year of the Ultrabook
Christina Bonnington at Wired thinks 2012 will be the year of the Ultrabook. While prices are still high, a spokesman for Intel said he thinks they may come down to $600 or $700 USD.
With Windows 8, Ultrabooks may start featuring touch screens, which will really shake up the tablet market….essentially making the Ultrabook like an Ipad with a Keyboard. Windows 8 will be designed to work...

40 inch touchscreen desk.
ExoPC’s 40-inch multitouch EXOdesk
This basically is like a huge Ipad, but mounted in a desk and high definition. So you can sit at it, read your social media, play games, show people your photos, anything you can do with a PC. All with the touch and swipe interface.
These have really come down in price, they were close to $10k, this one is now $1299 USD, for release in 2012. You can see...

Comparing Tablets
To my mind, this makes the Kindle look pretty good in comparison.

A nice clear comparison chart of the Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Apple iPad, and Blackberry Playbook, put together by Reuters.

D800 leaked shot...Latest in High end Camera tech...
This is rumoured to be the Nikon D800, Nikons not yet released 36 megapixel successor to the D700. Not everything is known about it, but what’s been let out of the bag is interesting. In terms of Megapixels, 36 puts it close to or matches some medium format cameras like Hasselbladt and the leaf Aptus digital backs. it also catches up to Pentax’s 40 megapixel Medium format, the...

Sozi and Prezi..you may now toss away Powerpoint.
I’ve recently been mucking about with making presentations on Sozi. If you have seen Prezi….Sozi is very similiar. Good old Powerpoint clicks through slides, one by one. However, Prezi(using flash) and Sozi(using vector drawings) zoom from one bit of info to another - can come in from the side, spin around, zoom in, zoom out, basically making your presentation a flashy...

Wikipedia is really undervalued........
I finally got round to reading Jimmy Wales’s personal appeal on Wikipedia - and he makes a good case as to how under resourced Wikipedia is, compared to its value to the world.
No. 7 site in the world, Yahoo, has advertising and 13,000 staff.
Google has 30,000 staff and advertising.
Facebook has 3000+ staff and money from advertising.
Wikipedia - somehow gets by on 95 staff, no ...

Samsung seeking to block Apple from selling the...
Revenge is a dish best served cold. Now that Apple are suing Samsung over the Galaxy Tab, Samsung say the gentleman’s agreement that they don’t sue each other over use of certain patents….is off.
Samsung claims that Apple are using a number of their patents in the Apple I phone 4S, and are seeking to ban sales of the Iphone.
In the Federal Court in Sydney today, Apple sought to...

Kindle Fire
Amazon is making 400 magazine titles available to the New Kindle Fire. They will be subscripton based. Also making 100’s of apps available for it, inlcudng facebook and Hulu.
Once again, for $199, the Kindle Fire is going to be giving the Ipad a good run for its money. I expect a lot of these to be given as Christmas presents… but not in Australia, they’re not being sold...

Adobe Flash is Dead.....
Adobe have announced that Flash will no longer be supported for mobile phones. Apparently this is because of a combination of reasons, it wasn’t supported by Apple, and some other smartphone devices, it uses up too much battery power and memory, and HTML 5 is just so much better. It also hadn’t been supported by some of the app manufacturers.
Apparently it was too resource intensive...

Talking to machines instead of pressing...
Voice interfaces for computers have been around for years. Comparatively, they are the one area that has been slow with take up, when you consider how long the area has been in development. I know of a company that 8 years ago was using speech recognition to operate the Windows environment (using what is probably the main software known for this, Dragon Naturally Speaking) on their PCs. Mainly...
